#1: Heritage Threads: Upcycling Design History

“heritage threads” draws inspiration from the rich history of textiles.

The inspiration behind 'Heritage Threads' stemmed from a desire to explore innovative methods of upcycling. My fascination with patchworking old textiles ignited during countless antiquing and thrifting excursions with family and friends. Surrounded by discarded yet exquisite fabrics in these stores, I pondered how to transform this overlooked waste into commercially viable, ready-to-wear ensembles.

Combining my love of vintage fashion with an attention to detail, these pieces were fully designed, patterned, and sewn by myself. Materials for these items were sourced from a variety of thrift, second-hand, and antique shops, as well as family heirloom textiles. Range of fabrics includes flour sacks, feed sacks, deadstock vintage fabrics, fabric remnants, vintage quilts, tablecloths, curtains, silk napkins, silk scarves, kimonos, and tea towels. It also honours the way we once treated clothing and textiles with great reverance, contradicting the disposable nature of fashion today.
