#1: UNRESOLVED:

UNRESOLVED: is a collection exploring the tension, difficulty, and complexity of navigating clothing while growing up non-binary and slowly coming in to myself. It is a head on collision with gender, making sewing, always a meditative space for me, a place to learn about myself and my own ways of expression. The collection seeks to challenge our notions of what is masculine and what is feminine in clothing, to create dissonance and discomfort in its styling, and for the viewer to be left questioning the assumptions in which they reside.

COLLECTION:

What does it look like to navigate the realms of male and female gendered clothing while never quite identifying with either? How does one express themselves when they feel as drawn to wearing their mother's flowing dresses as they do to wearing their father’s silk neckties? UNRESOLVED: embraces this seeming dichotomy, refusing to behave within its binary. Each garment in this collection serves as a canvas for a greater visual narrative around my own personal history and artistic expression while serving as commentary towards societal ideas of gendered clothing.

By blurring the lines between masculine and feminine aesthetics, this collection creates a space for exploration and redefinition. through the power of design, sewing, and craftmanship, this collection has allowed me to explore my aesthetic, serving as a transformative journey. It also builds upon and overlaps with my collection Heritage Threads in its use of all upcycled materials. This collection is a declaration of the beauty found in complexity and in embracing one’s complex, unresolved self.
